Trout Fishing Guide Craig Farrar

"Hi I'm Craig. I was first introduced to fly fishing at around
the age of 10 and have been an avid fly fisherman ever since. I
am also a keen fly tyer having learned the basics of tying flies
at a young age and more recently had my fly patterns included in
the publication New Zealands best trout flies.
My experience trout fishing in the Central North
Island spans over 20 years giving me great knowledge of the area.
The Central North Island is a fly fishing paradise and offers a
wide range of trout fishing opportunities.
To help improve my own fishing ability and knowledge
In recent years I have competed in competition fly fishing. This
is a great way to learn new techniques and patterns from many of
New Zealand and the worlds best anglers. I qualified for the New
Zealand fly fishing team in 2006 and 2008. A best result with the
team was in 2008 finishing 2nd in the World Fly fishing champs.
My individual placing was 21st overall. Having had a 1st place and
2nd placing in river session my lack of experience in lake fishing
cost me a top placing.
At a National level I have had best results of 2nd
place in the 2006 National fly fishing champs and 2nd place in the
2007 National pairs Fly fishing champs.
As a guide I love sharing the New Zealand outdoors.
The friendships that are made and of course the enjoyment people
get when they experience superb trout fishing in New Zealand. As
a Member of the New Zealand Professional fishing guides association
you can be assured of a quality fishing experience.
I look forward to showing you some of New Zealand's
best fly fishing."
Trout Fishing
Techniques Guided
River nymph fishing - There are great opportunities
for trout fishing with nymphs all year round. Summer provides the
opportunity to trout fish back country streams and rivers for resident
fish. In Winter nymphing to large spawning trout in very good condition
in the Taupo area is something I have and many others come back
for every year.
River dry fly - Trout fishing with dry flies
is good from November through to April. The best months are Dec
through March. The back country streams that are hard to find provide
fabulous fishing with no competion for space and trout willing to
take a fly.
Evening rise - November through April an evening
rise occurs on both lakes and rivers when conditions are suitable.
Lake fishing - Good fishing from November to
April. Best months Dec-March. Dry Fly, Nymph and Streamer Flies
will be used depending on the Situation. A small boat is often used
to access the best locations.
